When we take a page off-line for updating or revision, or because it’s no longer relevant, it leaves an empty website page address with no attached page. When a reader tries to go to that page they get a “404”, a blank page that just says 404, which is puzzling and frustrating. For a smooth reader experience website developers use “redirects”. A redirect sends the reader from an empty web address to an address that actually has a page attached, like this one.
